On Tuesday 28th June Netherby School celebrated their annual Celebration of Learning day. They say schools are flexible to deal with any mishap and after a small fire in our hall and foam dust everywhere and not to mention the very poor weather that comment was really put to the test.
The day began with a free sausage sizzle that was well received by all parents, children and whanau alike. With the hall being out of action and the weather being dreary the performances began underneath the sunshade. The Room 1 and 2 choir performed first accompanied by Mr Leverton on the guitar. They sang beautifully and warmed up the crowd for the first performance of the Hip Hop group who performed incredibly bravely in singlets battling the temperatures. The final act was that of Pua Waitanga the Netherby School Kapa Haka group who continued to impress with Mrs Mackenzie and Mrs Livingstone leading them well.
After the formalities the parents were encouraged to come inside the classroom and be involved in art activities for the whole family.
The day concluded with the appearance of the Ashburton Mayor Angus McKay who encouraged Netherby School children to listen and concentrate in class.
Finally on behalf of Room 2 it was great to see so many family members of all ages at school. These days are only successful with the support of the community and because of this positive outcome Room 2 are already looking forward to the next chance we have to celebrate.
